Hi all,
Tryouts for the Unity AllStars 2009/10 team will be held on Bank Holiday Monday 31st August at the MK Elite gym in Milton Keynes from 11am to 5pm. Please note athletes must be 17 years of age as of 31st August 2009 in order to try out.
Anyone wishing to tryout will need to be able to commit to the training dates and competitions listed below. As the team only trains one weekend every 3-4 weeks, attendance at all training sessions is complusory. As you have the dates so far in advance you have the opportunity to plan other commitments around these dates.
Going into our fourth year, Unity have had many successes and all new team members are warmly welcomed by existing members. We expect all new athletes to give 100% to the team so that we are able to continue the great work that we have been doing, and therefore ask that, if offered a place on the team, you only commit if you are prepared to dedicate yourself for the entire season.
As many of your are aware Unity received a partial paid bid to the Cheerleading World Championships at FC Nationals. We are hoping to go back to Worlds next year, but as it still early days in the planning of this, more details will be given at trials. Due to the level that we compete at, the team size for Worlds is a maximum of 24 athletes, therefore although we will be taking a bigger team for UK competitions not every team member will be able to compete on the Worlds team. However final decisions on this will not be made until the new team has been selected.
How will tryouts work?
Tryouts will involve learning a dance and jumps sequence that will be available to learn from mid-July on the Unity website (www.unityallstars.org) and the facebook group. Both of these will need to be performed on the day of trials. In addition athletes will be expected to demonstrate their top two or three standing and running tumbles (there will be a sprung floor).
Finally everyone will be put into groups to stunt. Flyers will be expected to demonstrate a range of stretches, twists from libs and baskets. Female bases will be expected to demonstrate an ability to base libs and baskets, Male bases will need to demonstrate an ability to base libs and baskets, and some experience with partner stunt would be advantageous though not required.
This is the fourth year that Unity has held their tryouts and they are always a great experience and good fun. If you are worried that you don't have the necessary skills please feel free to come along and see how you do anyway, you are bound to make some new friends if nothing else! There are no pre-requisite skill requirements, we look for talent and potential as well as polished skills and we always offer feedback to all attendees.
Video Entries
We will be accepting video entries via facebook however please be aware that we consider this a last resort. We would much prefer that everyone makes the efoort to attend trials in person unless you are away on holiday. Please contact Tori if you wish to tryout via this route.
Finances
Cost to tryout will be £10, same as last year. People submitting video entries will also be expected to pay this cost, which is used to cover venue hire.
In terms of finances for the year, full details will be given at trials however as a rough guide we estimate that costs for this year will be around £100 due in September and a further £100 due in January. These fees cover gym hire, music, insurance, all competition entry, accomodation for FC Nationals and a team T-shirt. New team members will also need to purchase some training shorts. In addition we will be purchasing new uniforms this year, but as always will try to keep costs for these as low as possible. We also try and arrange fundraising opportunities throughout the year which the whole team are expected to take part in.
If you are interested in trying out or would like more information please email tori.hardy@unityallstars.org and we will ensure that all your questions are answered.
Many thanks,
Tori and Ant
